Assessing your crisis
We understand that there are many reasons why you might find yourself in crisis.
That may be the death of a close family member, losing cash or access to money, broken essential household items, or something else.
We’re here to help.
Which is why we are flexible in how we assess your crisis and the financial support you need to get through it.
Crisis loans can be provided to buy:
- food
- essential household items (e.g. bed, mattress)
- electrical goods (e.g. cooker, fridge-freezer, washing machine).
They can also be provided to pay urgent bills, including the payment or top up of essential utilities, such as gas, electricity and water.
If you are being threatened with eviction or having your gas or electricity cut off, we will need proof as part of our assessment.
Am I eligible?
All loans will be assessed individually, but as a minimum you will need to:
- Be 18 or over
- Be a resident of Rotherham within the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council boundary.
- Have an income of at least £71 per week.
- Have repaid any previous crisis loans.
- Be able to prove your identity, address and income.
If you do not have income of £71 per week but can make the repayments, even at a later date, such as having had your benefits sanctioned, you can still apply.
How does it work?
- If you are not a member already, you need to join South Yorkshire Community Bank
- When you apply, we will work out and agree an affordable repayment plan with you, with a minimum repayment amount
- You pay your benefit into your savings account
- Crisis loan repayments are deducted from you savings account and you can withdraw the rest
- The number of loans we may offer to you will depend upon our assessment of your crisis, your repayment history and is always at our discretion.
