Give the office the sort code and account number listed above. Make sure you give them the correct reference, depending on which benefit you are transferring:

  • Universal Credit, PIP, or Tax Credits: Ask the office to use your membership number, followed by the first three letters of your surname, e.g. “12345Jon”.
  • ESA, JSA, State Pension, Pension Credit or Child Benefit: These benefits use their own reference, you don’t need to provide one.
If you already have a benefit paid into your Sheffield Credit Union account, please contact us before transferring another one.

You can pay cheques into your account in person at our offices in Sheffield or Rotherham, or by posting them to us.

Please write your membership number on the back of the cheque.

Cheques take 14 working days to clear.

Why do I make payments to Sheffield Credit Union Ltd?

South Yorkshire Community Bank is our name, but it is what is known as a “trading style” or brand name. The official, legal name of the company you are paying is one of our legacy names, Sheffield Credit Union Ltd.

We know that when making payments you want to make sure you are paying the right company. If you look at our website footer below, you will see that it says “Sheffield Credit Union Ltd t/a South Yorkshire Community Bank”. This is very common and allows us to have the name we chose without having to change things like our Companies House registration or Bank Account details – meaning everything continues to run smoothly before and after our name change.
